Four sets of twelve NAPLAN-style questions — repeating patterns, growing patterns, input-output tables, place value and decimals, fractions, money, time, angles, grids, and missing numbers. Pick a set, then practise reading the question, choosing, and checking.

These four sets of twelve questions mirror the style of NAPLAN numeracy items across the Year 3–5 band: a short stimulus, a plain question, four options, and distractors built from common slips. Set 1 is the starter; Set 2 goes further with a matchstick-pattern stretch; Set 3 builds on Number Basecamp skills — place value, decimals, digit slides and strategies; Set 4 walks the whole Year 4 Pathway in one review. In the real test there is no penalty for guessing, so the strategy to teach is: answer every question, flag and come back, and check the working only when reviewing. Here, the working appears after each answer so the practice doubles as teaching. NAPLAN is administered by ACARA; Pattern Detective is an independent publication and is not affiliated with ACARA.
